Newport News Shipbuilding, a Division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, is currently searching for iDS Production Planning & Scheduler - Junior Level 2, to join our team and embark on a courageous project to turn shipbuilding paperless; what we call Integrated Digital Shipbuilding or iDS.

This position will work with the IDS team deploying Next Generation Planning (NGP) software. Responsibilities also include creating and prototyping new processes based upon the requirements provided for the support of going to a Model based environment (drawingless). Where a model based environment does not exist, processes will be developed to support the Non-Model Based programs.
This individual will work closely with Engineering, Program Planning, IT and Shop Planning in the development of drawingless strategies and processes for all programs.
Plans, prepares, issues and controls production schedules and coordinates with material requirements to ensure a controlled flow of approved materials timed to meet production requirements. Advises management of the status of work in progress, material availability, and potential production problems to ensure that personnel, equipment, materials and services are provided as needed. Schedules equipment and personnel, confirms material supply and demands, prepares work orders or purchase requests for the production or purchase of components or parts based on a master production schedule, shop load and inventory requirements. Coordinates interdepartmental activity with quality assurance, manufacturing, purchasing, engineering, inventory control, traffic, etc.; schedules and expedites the movement of parts by means of move orders, stock transfers and requests for shipping orders.

Apprentice School graduate, or a Bachelor's degree and 3 years of shipbuilding, related military, manufacturing, or production operations experience
OR 3 years experience at the Prod Plng and Scheduler 1 level
OR 3 years of testing/production management experience (e.g. Foreman)
OR 11 years experience in manufacturing, production operations or related military service (inclusive of 2 years supervisory/leadership experience or Planning/Production Control/Naval systems specialized training experience) and possess a well-founded knowledge of production operations, production processes, ship systems, and planning methods and schedules and/or plant maintenance activities.

The preferred applicant should:
• Utilize computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, CAD, Siemens NX and Teamcenter both operating and modeling functions.
• Gather information, propose model solutions and present design proposals.
• Have an understanding of design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications.
• Possess a detailed design knowledge of components, systems and manufacturing operations across multiple disciplines.
• Possess a well-rounded knowledge of Manufacturing and Assembly Product Structuring, BOM development in SAP, drawing interpretation, targeting, MS Project/Excel/Power Point, and shop work center standards.
• Prior experience working on large projects in a teaming atmosphere is a plus, with a preference towards innovative thinking.
• Demonstrate good communication and teamwork skills.
